On the 15th of April the Active Member of the Month April was announced at the monthly Synergy drink. The Active Member of the Month April is Rebecca Veltman. Together with her dedicated committee she organized a successful Business Trip to Prague! I spoke with Rebecca two days after the drink about her nomination as Active Member of the Month.

Radboud by Night

Looking for an activity coming Thursday the 18th of April? Come visit the Radboud by Night event! Radboud by Night is a yearly event organised by the University Student Council (Universitaire Studentenraad) in collaboration with student organisation and Student Life. This year’s proceeds will go to a project in Jordan ‘Jong Jordanië: voorbereid op de banen van de toekomst’. This project is also supported by the Unicef Student Team Nijmegen.

De Godspot: Zit Religie in het Brein?

Een kleine maand geleden had ik de kans om een lezing van Radboud Reflects bij te wonen betreffende een mogelijke ‘godspot’. ‘’Wat is dat dan?’’, zal je vast denken: kort gezegd was er de vraag of religie zijn basis heeft in het brein, en er dus een hersenkwab is die alle ‘religieuze zaken’ regelt. Zeer interessant dus, niet ten zeerste omdat ik zelf gelovig ben, maar ook omdat religie deze dagen steeds meer geassocieerd wordt met conflict, geweld en intolerantie.

The benefits of volunteering

On the one hand, you help the community you reside in or feel you belong to, and on the other hand you learn new skills and grow your network. Aan het einde van je studie ontstaat een soort gat tussen theorie en praktijkervaring. Na jaren in de boeken gezeten te hebben zoeken de meesten die ervaring op door middel van commissies of een bestuursjaar. Maar er is nóg een alternatief: een traineeship.
Onlangs ben ik naar het ABN AMRO hoofdkantoor op de Zuidas afgereisd om samen te zitten met één van de trainees van EVG Start, Anne Somsen. Anne is werkzaam in het team ‘Competence and Change’, waarbij zij zich vooral bezighoudt met communicatie gerelateerde activiteiten.

Carnival

Alaaf! Carnival is one of the biggest holidays in the Netherlands. However, it is rather a regional holiday within the country. Unlike King’s Day which is celebrated all over the Netherlands, Carnival is only celebrated in the provinces of Noord Brabant (North Brabant), Limburg, and to some extent in Gelderland.
